Sandra Carbonell

Sandra Carbonell is a bilingual (English-Spanish) intimacy coordinator (IC), actress and film entertainment production worker currently traveling between Mexico, El Salvador, the U.S. and Canada.

 

Being the first intimacy coordinator in Latin America to pursue a certification by IDC, Sandra is a pioneer in the region who advocates for the inclusion of the intimacy coordinator role in the Mexican and Latin American film industry. Her experience as an intimacy coordinator  includes working in American and Mexican productions filmed in Mexico.

 

Sandra began studying performing arts since 2005 and has been an active actor in film and theater since 2008. She studied a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Entertainment Management and a diploma specialized in Film Production from the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC) in Mexico City. Her background allows her to apply her analytical and creative skills, be sensitive to the needs of the actors, and be knowledgable of the production process as well. The combination of her knowledge and experience gives her the perspectives of the intimacy coordinator, actor, and producer.

 

Sandra worked with children age 3-12 for 10 years teaching theatre and as an assistant principal. This experience trained her in various areas such as prevention, recognition, and reporting of child abuse and neglect. She has additional and ongoing training in anti-racism, Latinx inclusion, mediation and conflict resolution, gender identity and sexual orientation, and mental health awareness.

 

Before the creation of the intimacy coordinator role, Sandra always thought it necessary to have an advocate for actors during intimate scenes based on her experience as an actress in these types of scenes. She strongly believes that the process around communication and consent is the base of any type of relationship, and key to filming and working on a successful intimate scene.
